Do we stop in Winter – not likely – here’s what we’ve been up to!
Torwood Park – We have spread three tons of fine red Ballmullo Gravel to improve the path by the shrubbery and bench, as it was disappearing and would have become a muddy area. Eighty Tete a Tete miniature daffodils have also been planted in the adjacent bed and will add to the impressive display of Spring bulbs in the flower bed and the Old Hostel Walk. The bench has become shoogly, and we hope the council will repair it in due course as we all need a seat from which to watch the children/dogs running around with their endless energy!
Plans for the other end of Torwood Park include digging of a trench by Community Greenspace, adding bottoming and laying Nida Matting (surplus from St Ninian’s Garden) over this with a topping of small gravel, as this area becomes muddy and slippery in damp weather due to the trees and slight slope. We also plan to improve the corner from the gate down with edging and additional planting.
LITTER at the Birnam entrance to the village. Some “kind” person has been chucking out rubbish on a regular basis. We assume someone local as it is always more or less in the same place every time, and always the same stuff. (from Macdonald’s, mainly McCafe cups and other rubbish, including bottles.) This initiated a couple of volunteers to do a litter-pick. They collected two bags full, making the place looks entirely different! Our thanks to them.
If you are the culprit PLEASE take it home and put in your own bin or use a community bin if you are eating in secret and don’t wish to be found out?
Birnam Glen/Station Steps Bed. – It may not look like much, especially in Winter but we are trying to develop an attractive wildflower bed here, for commuters and visitors to enjoy on their way to and from the station. As this may not be obvious, we have added some boulders to protect the wild flower bed, and Betty has put up new signs, to stop any more damage being done.
Finally, does anyone in the community have any ideas for things that they think would improve the village? AND can anyone help a little this season as we are few and thinly spread for the whole area.
Any hours however infrequent would add to what can be maintained and achieved.
New Year Greetings to all from “the Bloomers”
